Just Festival Conversations: Conflict and Consciousness in Ukraine and Russia

Bishop John Armes, Bishop of Edinburgh in the Scottish Episcopal Church is joined by Professor Jolyon Mitchell, Professor of Communications, Arts and Religion and Director of the Centre for Theology and Public Issues at the University of Edinburgh, and Professor Luke March, Professor in Soviet and Post-Soviet Politics and Deputy Director of the Princes Dashkova Russian Centre at the University of Edinburgh. Together they explore the roots of the conflict in Ukraine and what the prospects are for a peaceful future, and seek to understand why the average Russian citizen might sympathise with the war (if indeed they do) and to understand why Ukrainians feel this is a war they must fight. How is ‘truthfulness’ to be managed and achieved in the present context?

*please note this event will now take place in Red Cockerel Cafe, in the lower area of the church. Stewards will be on the main door to direct audience members.
