SMILES FROM HEBRON I THE CHURCH OF SCOTLAND I CONVERSATIONS

In partnership with The Church of Scotland

Val Brown is the Churches Manager for Christian Aid Scotland and enjoys getting out around the country speaking to congregations about the breadth of the work that the organisation does with partners around the world. She is a member of the Church of Scotland’s world mission council and is currently the convenor of the Middle East committee.

Rebecca McGonigle works with World Mission Council at Church of Scotland and is passionate about peace and justice issues. In 2015, Rebecca  volunteered as a human rights monitor with the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel – EAPPI – for 3 months. Ecumenical Accompaniers offer protective presence to vulnerable communities and monitor and report human rights abuses. They join Palestinians and Israelis who work in nonviolent ways for peace and support the local churches.  Once home, EAs use their experiences to advocate about the realities of occupation and campaign for a just and peaceful resolution to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict based on international law.

The Rev Kate Reynolds is Assistant Curate at Old Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Edinburgh. In November and December 2014, she was in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories on an ecumenical partnership visit organised and hosted by the Church of Scotland’s World Mission Council.  While there, she also attended the Kairos Conference in Bethlehem. God willing, she is looking forward to returning in the autumn with her husband Justin, greyhound Judy, and cat Coleridge to work and minister in Tiberias.

Join us to watch and discuss ‘Smile, and the world will smile back’, a short film, which documents one night in the life of al-Haddad family from Hebron (West Bank).  We will talk about life in the West Bank and the work of B’Tselem.
