A lot has been happening on this festival. A lot of shows have been performed, a lot of subjects discussed, a lot of pieces of art displayed, a lot of pictures shared and articles published. However these only constitute the visible part of the iceberg. Underneath the surface - or should I say backstage - a lot of activity has been going on as well. Today, how about peeking under the curtains to see what is happening in the shadows of this bright and colourful festival?
Behind the scene, the management team has been working along with dozens of volunteers - some present during the whole festival, some helping out for a few days; some volunteering as part of a program (International Voluntary Service - IVS), others on a individual initiative. They come from the five continents and for most of them, English is a foreign language. But despite all these differences or maybe thanks to them, the volunteers working at just Festival all share the same motivations: they offer their services to meet new people, enjoy and promote the cultural diversity, learn some new skills and above all to be part of an exciting festival.
I asked them what they liked the most about being a volunteer at just Festival, here are their answers:
Of course, volunteers are not only here to have fun. They are working by shifts, helping out the different managers in charge of the festival's organisation. They are therefore able to learn different skills, from customer service and cash-handling to stage management.
Here are some of the activities volunteers are involved into:
But who says hard-working volunteers also says food...Lots of food!
