Inspired by the natural, emotional, and spiritual migrations that occur after nightfall, 'Nocturne' uses Indian dance and music to summon the different facets of the night - the natural world of flora and fauna, the emotional world of anticipation and longing, and the heightened spiritual potency of pre-dawn. The work is also an allegory for embracing the unknown.
Nocturne unfolds over three movements:
Luna/ Chandra - nocturnal creatures and settings that are dormant by day are free to roam and flourish only after sundown;
Rapture/ Pramodya - night is when love's influence is at its strongest;
Invocation/ Yaman - the hours between midnight and sunrise are charged with spiritual vibrations.
'For one hour we are transported into an exquisite dream state, one that exists deep in the heart of night.' Caroline Palmer | StarTribune
